Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) has introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for comments made at the People’s Conference for Palestine. The conference was described by Carter as antisemitic and accused of supporting terrorism against Israel and Jewish people, as well as calling for the United States to be neutralized.

Carter criticized Tlaib’s statements, saying she vilified her colleagues who support Israel, used profanities, and celebrated what he called a terrorist regime, which he said endangered Jewish lives.

“Tlaib’s vile, blatant antisemitism is a scourge on this Congress, and she must be held accountable. Her conduct is beneath that of a civilized person, let alone a member of Congress. I am calling on the House of Representatives to censure her remarks and put democrats on notice for enabling and cheering on antisemitism in their own party,” said Rep. Carter.

According to Carter, these recent remarks are part of an ongoing pattern from Tlaib involving antisemitic narratives about the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and calls for the destruction of Israel.

Rep. Buddy Carter has been elected multiple times to represent Georgia’s 1st district in Congress. In 2024, he won reelection against Patti Hewitt with 62% of the vote; previous victories include wins over Wade Herring in 2022 with 59.15%, Joyce Griggs in 2020 with 58.35%, Lisa Ring in 2018 with 57.8%, and Brian Reese in 2014 with 60.9%.
