Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter has secured a Department of Homeland Security contract to expand the D. Ray James Correctional Facility in Folkston, Georgia. This expansion will integrate the facility into the Folkston Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Processing Centre, making it the largest in the United States for processing illegal immigrants.
The facility’s capacity will increase to nearly 3,000 beds, enhancing federal detention operations and creating approximately 400 jobs in Georgia’s First Congressional District. This move is expected to boost economic growth in the area.
“With this expansion, Georgia will strengthen its status as a national leader in the fight to secure our southern border,” said Rep. Carter. “I’m proud to have worked with Charlton County to get the D. Ray James Correctional Facility expansion over the finish line, which will bring jobs and economic growth to our region, and I will continue to support our brave ICE agents as they seek to restore law and order.”
The City of Folkston is projected to gain around $600,000 annually from water and sewer services provided to the expanded facility.
