Chatham County voters are preparing for upcoming statewide and local elections, with early voting available until Friday, November 1. Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4.

The ballot includes two races for Georgia’s Public Service Commission (PSC), which oversees utility regulation across the state. The PSC decides on issues such as energy needs, rates paid by consumers, and the reliability of the power grid. Although commissioners represent specific districts, all Georgia voters participate in electing each member. This year, the district covering Savannah is among those contested.

Local elections will also take place in Thunderbolt, Port Wentworth, Garden City, Bloomingdale, Vernonburg, and Tybee Island. Voters in these municipalities will select local leaders and decide on community-specific ballot questions.

Two countywide ballot questions are included this year. The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce has expressed support for a YES vote on the SPLOST 8 program. According to the Chamber: “All the projects to be funded by continuing this one-cent sales tax can be found at voteyessplost.com. By continuing the sales tax, we allow visitors to contribute to funding these much-needed projects.”

Another question proposes removing an inflation factor from property value calculations used for school taxes. If approved by voters, property values would remain fixed for tax purposes and would not automatically rise with inflation each year.

The Chamber encourages residents to participate in the election process: “Every vote matters—be informed, make a plan, and help shape the future of our community.”
