State Representative John Corbett, a Republican from Lake Park and the chairman of the House Committee on Motor Vehicles, has been appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns to lead the newly formed House Study Committee on the State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers & Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers.

Chairman Corbett expressed his commitment to enhancing Georgia’s motor vehicle policies, stating, “I’m honored to be appointed by Speaker Burns to chair the House Study Committee on the State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers and Used Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers.” He emphasized his dedication to creating policies that benefit both businesses and the public. Corbett highlighted that this committee will provide an opportunity to assess whether consolidating regulatory responsibilities could result in more effective oversight.

The study committee was created after the adoption of House Resolution 558 during the 2025 legislative session. Its focus is to determine if regulation of the used motor vehicle industry should be managed by the same agency responsible for issuing essential license plates.

Speaker Burns has also named other members to serve on this committee: State Representatives Alan Powell from Hartwell, Jason Ridley from Chatsworth, and Danny Mathis from Cochran. Additionally, non-legislative members include Ms. Maggie Haisty, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Georgia Secretary of State’s office; Mr. Derrick Corbett; and a representative from the Department of Revenue Commissioner’s office.
