Fifteen new Honorary Commanders have been appointed to the 165th Airlift Wing and Air Dominance Center, according to a recent ceremony held last week. The appointees, drawn from various sectors across the Savannah region, will serve as liaisons between the military units and the local community for the next two years.
The installation event also recognized outgoing Honorary Commander Bill Cathcart for his contributions. Organizers noted his impact by saying it would take all fifteen new commanders to fill his role.
As part of their responsibilities, the new Honorary Commanders will receive exclusive access to base operations. This initiative is intended to strengthen relationships between military personnel and regional leaders.
Among those named are Dr. Julie Olsen of Workplace Advancement Strategies for the 165th Airlift Wing, Mr. Bert Brantley from the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce for the Air Dominance Center, and Ms. Lynetta Smith representing Combat Boots 2 the Boardroom for the 165th Comptroller Flight. Other representatives come from organizations including AT&T Corporation, Coastal Heritage Society, VyStar Credit Union, Effingham County Prisons, Colonial Group Inc., Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Advertising Specialty Services, Savannah College of Art and Design, Bulloch County Prison, and Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America.
“Over the next two years, these civic and community leaders will act as ambassadors for the Airmen, sharing insights about their mission, dedication, and impact across Georgia and beyond.”
“The new commanders will enjoy exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to base operations, forging valuable connections between our installation and the surrounding community.”
This program aims to foster understanding of military operations among local leaders while enhancing support for service members stationed in Georgia.
