FOIA Request to Savannah State University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at the Savannah Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Savannah State University. This request seeks detailed information concerning the presence and academic involvement of Chinese National students at the university.

Our inquiry specifically requests records that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected under privacy laws, we have asked for aggregated data showing the total number of such students broken down by department.

Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes documentation detailing each scholarship’s amount and source. We are particularly interested in identifying any scholarships associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, our request extends to policies or procedures implemented by the university to safeguard its intellectual property and confidential information, especially as it pertains to monitoring students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.

This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency within governmental agencies. As members of the media, our role in gathering and disseminating news is crucial for public awareness and institutional accountability. Therefore, we have requested a fee waiver based on our professional responsibilities.

We anticipate that this information will contribute significantly to our understanding of how educational institutions manage international student engagement while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and protecting sensitive information.
