House Speaker Jon Burns has appointed State Representative Carter Barrett as chairman of the House Study Committee on Affordability & Accessibility of Georgia’s Legitimation Process. This announcement was made in Atlanta, and the committee’s focus will be to evaluate improvements to make the legitimation process more affordable and accessible.
Rep. Barrett expressed his commitment to ensuring that legal fatherhood is attainable without financial or procedural hindrances. “Every child deserves the opportunity to have a strong, supportive relationship with both parents, and it’s our responsibility to ensure that the path to legal fatherhood is not blocked by unnecessary financial or procedural barriers,” said Rep. Barrett. He further stated his honor at being appointed by Speaker Burns and his eagerness to collaborate with colleagues for solutions that benefit Georgia’s families and children.
The study committee was established through House Resolution 753 and aims specifically at making the legitimation process more feasible for biological fathers who face financial challenges.
Speaker Burns also named other members of the study committee: State Representative Teddy Reese as Vice Chairman, along with Representatives Lynn Heffner, Rob Clifton, and Vance Smith.
