Georgia House plans prayer service for Texas flood victims

House Speaker Jon Burns and members of the Georgia House of Representatives will host a prayer service for victims and survivors of the Texas floods. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the South Wing Steps of the Georgia State Capitol.

Speaker Jon Burns expressed his condolences: “Our hearts are heavy for the people of Texas as they face unimaginable tragedy and loss in the aftermath of the catastrophic Hill Country floods.” He noted that over 130 families are mourning loved ones, with many others experiencing devastation to their homes and livelihoods. Burns emphasized Georgia’s previous support from across the nation after Hurricane Helene, stating it is now time to reciprocate for Texas.

The service will include House Speaker Jon Burns, Pastor Jimmy Elder, Representative Mack Jackson (D-Sandersville), and other members of the Georgia House. Information about organizations and relief efforts will be shared by Texas Speaker Dustin Burrows.
