Last week, Governor Brian Kemp visited Savannah to sign 25 new bills into law. Of these, 19 specifically target the coastal communities of Georgia. This legislative action is seen as a significant advancement for the Savannah area and the broader Coastal Empire.
One notable piece of legislation establishes the Savannah Music Commission. This initiative aims to bolster Savannah’s cultural economy by supporting local artists, attracting major music events, and increasing business for local venues and tourism partners.
Governor Kemp also signed a bill to create the Interagency Council on Homelessness for Chatham-Savannah. The council’s purpose is to coordinate resources and enhance support for homeless individuals, focusing on collaboration and long-term solutions.
The legislation also benefits other communities such as Bryan County, Rincon, Tybee Island, and Long County, highlighting regional progress and priorities.
Governor Kemp expressed optimism about the region’s future: “This region has enjoyed incredible growth in recent years and that will continue to be the case. We’ve seen over 160 economic development projects bring almost 28,000 new jobs and $14.5 billion of investment to this region of our state.”
Additionally, six healthcare-related measures were signed into law by Governor Kemp. These measures expand access to IVF treatments and services for individuals with disabilities.
These legislative developments underscore the growing influence of the region and emphasize strong partnerships between local leadership and the State Capitol. The Savannah Area Chamber remains committed to advocating for policies that promote business growth, quality of life, and regional prosperity.
