Billy Hickman, a Republican, w as elected to the Georgia Senate in a special election in 2020 to represent District 4, which includes Bulloch, Candler, Effingham and Evans Counties, and parts of Emanuel and Tattnall Counties. In the Senate, Sen. Hickman serves as the Secretary of the Government Oversight Committee, and as a member of the Finance, Higher Education, and Retirement Committees. Sen. Hickman is from Statesboro and is a certified public accountant, and licensed and certified by the AICPA in Financial Forensics. Sen. Hickman graduated from Georgia Southern College and joined the firm of Dabbs, Hickman, Hill, and Cannon, LLP, in 1974. In his position leading the forensic practice, he has provided testimony in the Federal Bankruptcy Court in Bulloch County, Chatham County, and Columbia, South Carolina, as well as the Federal Courts of Augusta and Savannah, Georgia. Sen. Hickman has long been active in his community. Among many other leadership positions, Sen. Hickman has previously served as President of the Downtown Rotary Club of Statesboro, the Southeast Georgia Society of Public Accountants, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Southern University Foundation, Inc. Sen. Hickman and his wife, Jo Ann, have two sons and five grandsons. They are active members of First Baptist Church of Statesboro.
