Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter announced on Apr. 14 that American workers are receiving record-high tax returns due to the Working Families Tax Cuts, legislation enacted under President Trump. Carter said these provisions offer significant relief to families, workers, and small business owners.

The announcement comes as many Americans file their taxes and see changes in their returns. The topic is important because it affects the financial well-being of households across the country.

According to Carter, “Through the Working Families Tax Cuts, House Republicans delivered win after win for working families. Provisions such as doubling the Child Tax Credit, No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and raising the death tax exemption amount are lowering the burden on families and supporting small businesses and hardworking farmers in Georgia.” He also said that “Republicans are governing with common-sense policies that are helping folks keep more of what they earn.”

The legislation includes several key provisions: doubling both the Child Tax Credit and Standard Deduction; eliminating taxes on tips and overtime; and raising the death tax exemption amount.

Carter has a history of electoral success in Georgia’s 1st district. In 2024, he defeated Patti Hewitt by securing 62% of votes according to official results; previous elections show similar outcomes with victories over Wade Herring in 2022 (59.15%), Joyce Griggs in 2020 (58.35%), Lisa Ring in 2018 (57.8%), and Brian Reese in 2014 (60.9%). Carter has served as U.S. Representative since replacing Jack Kingston in 2015 according to available records.

Looking ahead, supporters say these measures could continue shaping economic policy discussions at both state and national levels.
