State Representative Holt Persinger, a Republican from Winder, joined Governor Brian Kemp and House Speaker Jon Burns at the State Capitol for the signing of House Bill 268 into law. This bill, considered a priority during the 2025 legislative session, lays out a comprehensive school safety plan.

Representative Persinger commented, “I was proud to stand alongside Governor Kemp as he signed this critical piece of legislation into law.” He emphasized that the bill was a response to the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School and expressed his honor in being joined by community members as the legislation was enacted. Persinger said, “As a state legislator, I can think of no greater responsibility than ensuring that our students can thrive and that classrooms are safe and secure, and that’s what this legislation will accomplish.”

House Bill 268 mandates the implementation of mobile panic alert systems, the transfer of student records within five school business days, the establishment of a Student Advocacy Specialist grant program to enhance student mental health resources, the provision of an anonymous reporting platform, and increases in penalties for threats against Georgia’s schools. The bill officially became law upon Governor Kemp’s signature.
