State Representative Rick Townsend of Brunswick has been appointed to the House Study Committee on Student Attendance in PreK-12 Education by House Speaker Jon Burns. The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for July 22, 2025, at the Georgia State Capitol.
Rep. Townsend expressed his gratitude for the appointment, stating, “I’m honored to have been appointed by Speaker Burns to serve on the House Study Committee on Student Attendance in PreK–12 Education.” He emphasized his background in Georgia’s education sector and its relevance to improving student attendance and engagement.
Speaker Jon Burns highlighted the importance of education for Georgia’s workforce, saying, “Education remains a top priority for the Georgia House, which is why we’re taking a closer look at student attendance in PreK-12 education.”
Chairman Chris Erwin also praised Rep. Townsend’s appointment: “I am very excited that Rep. Townsend will be serving on the study committee.”
The committee was established through House Resolution 711 and will review issues related to student attendance from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. It aims to address chronic absenteeism and propose legislative solutions.
Other members of the committee include State Representatives Matt Dubnik, Sandy Donatucci, Will Wade, and Lydia Glaize.
