Rick W. Allen, U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 12th District and a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, has recently posted several updates on his social media accounts addressing literacy, disaster preparedness, and consumer choice.
On September 8, 2025, Allen marked National Literacy Month by emphasizing the broader significance of literacy skills. He stated, “September is National Literacy Month! Literacy is more than just reading—it’s the key to learning, lifelong opportunity, and achieving the American Dream. As a member of @EdWorkforceCmte, I will continue to shine a light on the importance of strong literacy skills for all”.
The following day, September 9, 2025, Allen reflected on Hurricane Helene’s impact as its one-year anniversary approached. He noted lessons learned regarding emergency communications during natural disasters: “We’re approaching the one-year mark since Hurricane Helene devastated the 12th District. Many lessons were learned in the immediate aftermath—including the importance of emergency communications during natural disasters. Check out my questions during today’s @HouseCommerce”.
Later that same day, Allen commented on federal regulations affecting consumer products: “The federal government has no business tilting the scales on what appliances American families should buy. @HouseCommerce is fighting to preserve consumer choice.”
Allen has consistently secured reelection in Georgia’s 12th Congressional District since first winning office in 2014 against John Barrow with 54.7% of the vote. In subsequent elections—2016 through 2024—he maintained victory margins ranging from approximately 58% to over 61%, defeating opponents including Patricia C. McCracken (2016), Francys Johnson (2018), and Elizabeth Johnson (2020–2024).
