City of Savannah offices and facilities will close on Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Emergency services will remain operational during this period.

Sanitation services will experience adjustments due to the holiday closure. Residential garbage and recycling collection will proceed as usual, while yard waste collection services will not operate on July 4. These services are scheduled to resume on Saturday, July 5. Street sweeping operations will be paused on July 4 and will continue on Monday, July 9.

The Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Transfer Station will also be closed on July 4 but are set to reopen for regular operation the following day. Residents seeking further information are advised to consult their annual Sanitation calendar or visit savannahga.gov/sanitation.

The City has issued a reminder for residents planning to use fireworks on the Fourth of July to exercise caution. “According to the National Fire Protection Association, the only safe way to view fireworks is to attend a professional show.”

City and State laws permit the discharge of fireworks between 10 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on both July 3 and July 4 by individuals aged 18 or older. Fireworks usage is restricted in certain areas including public roads, highways, railroads, indoor spaces where trespassing occurs, within proximity of critical infrastructure like electric plants or hospitals, among others.

Additionally, fireworks cannot be used in parks or historic sites unless authorized by a controlling agency. The City emphasizes that celebratory gunfire is dangerous and strictly prohibited.
