The City of Savannah has extended an invitation to its residents for the upcoming Independence Day Waterfront Celebrations. The event will feature a professional fireworks display and new lighting at City Hall.
The River Street celebration includes performances by the U.S. Army’s Third Infantry Division Brass Band and Rock Band, starting at 7:30 p.m. A 20-minute fireworks show is scheduled for 9:30 p.m., launched from a barge in the Savannah River, accompanied by a patriotic soundtrack. Both events are free to attend.
There are specific regulations regarding alcohol consumption during the celebrations. No alcohol service is permitted in public areas, but one alcoholic beverage per person is allowed within the designated To-Go Cup Zone, provided it is in a plastic cup.
Attendees can bring chairs or blankets to River Street for the fireworks but must adhere to restrictions on certain items such as coolers, glass containers, and personal fireworks.
River Street ramps will close to traffic at 7 p.m. until after the fireworks show concludes. Vehicles parked along River Street before 6 p.m. must remain until clearance is given by the Savannah Police Department (SPD). Free street parking will be available on Friday, with parking garages open for a flat rate of $20.
City Hall’s exterior lighting has been updated with LED lights capable of color integration and will display red, white, and blue colors starting July 3rd in honor of Independence Day.
Residents are reminded to follow firework safety guidelines throughout the weekend. Fireworks can be discharged between 10 a.m. and midnight on July 3rd and July 4th by individuals aged 18 or older but are prohibited in certain public spaces without permission from relevant authorities.
All city administrative offices will close on July 4th; however, emergency services will continue operating as usual with support from an activated Emergency Operation Center.
Sanitation services may experience disruptions due to holiday closures; further information can be found on savannahga.gov/sanitation.
