Savannah appoints new sustainability officer; promotes assistant fire chief

The City of Savannah has announced the appointment of Nylah Oliver as the new Sustainability Officer and the promotion of Nicholas Earley to Assistant Fire Chief-Shift Commander for the Savannah Fire Department (SFD).

Nylah Oliver will lead the Office of Environmental Services and Sustainability. She brings nearly ten years of experience in sustainability strategy, social impact initiatives, community resilience, and corporate responsibility. Her previous role was Head of Social Responsibility at The Promise Homes Company, where she managed sustainability projects across a 600-unit housing portfolio.

Oliver’s career includes roles at Jones Lang LaSalle, United Parcel Service, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Wells Fargo. Her work involved research, stakeholder engagement strategies, supplier diversity programs, and contributions to international Environmental, Social, and Governance reporting standards. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and a Master of Public Administration from Georgia State University.

Nicholas Earley has been promoted within SFD after 20 years of service. He started his fire service career in 2005 as an Advanced Firefighter and advanced through various ranks to Battalion Chief since 2020. His expertise includes technical rescue operations and emergency response coordination during hurricanes.

Earley possesses a bachelor’s degree in fire science and a Master of Public Administration with a focus on emergency services management. His credentials include the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence and other certifications.
