Savannah appoints Taffanye Young as assistant city manager

Following the adoption of the Savannah GPS Strategic Plan, the City of Savannah has appointed Taffanye Young as Assistant City Manager. Young’s responsibilities will include implementing and measuring the strategic plan, supporting City Council-related priorities, fostering community relations and external partnerships, and promoting a culture of accountability and public service excellence. She will also assist the City Manager in coordinating government activities.

City Manager Jay Melder stated, “As we work to implement the goals of Savannah GPS, Taffanye will guide staff in carrying out the strategies and objectives of our strategic plan. Taffanye is an invaluable, dedicated public servant who for over 30 years has helped enhance the quality of City services.”

Since 2012, Young has been serving as the City’s Chief Community Services Officer. In this role, she has overseen several departments including Housing and Neighborhood Services, Human Services, Recreation and Leisure Services, Cultural Resources, and the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement.

Throughout her three decades of public service, Young has developed stronger public-private partnerships, led efforts to expand affordable housing, enhanced recreational offerings, implemented programs connecting families to essential services, and increased support for the unhoused population.
