Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter announced that the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport will receive $11.4 million in grants from the Department of Transportation. These funds are allocated for three key projects at the airport.
The grants include $1.3 million to update the airport’s master plan, $3.7 million for constructing a new taxiway, and $6.4 million to expand the general aviation apron.
“The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is a crown jewel of Georgia’s First Congressional District,” said Rep. Carter. “These funds will help the airport improve its already stellar operations, connecting the world to our beautiful coast and providing best-in-class service for all passengers.”
Greg Kelly, Executive Director of the Savannah Airport Commission, expressed his approval of the funding: “It is great to hear that we will be receiving these three grants to help pay for necessary airfield infrastructure projects at our airport as we continue to grow.” He added that these grants would support aircraft movements related to their new air cargo complex and expanding Business/General Aviation campus.
