In recognition of Georgia Water Professionals Day, the City of Savannah’s Water Resources Department is organizing a Careers in Water event on May 7. This event is designed for youth, veterans, and job seekers who are considering a career in water services.

Participants will have the chance to interact with representatives from several departments within the City’s Water Resources department. These include Storm Water Management; Water and Sewer Planning and Engineering; Water Conveyance and Distribution; Water Reclamation; Water Supply and Treatment; Utility Billing; and Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Inspectors. The event offers insights into various careers that support Savannah’s water systems, ranging from engineering to environmental compliance.

Water Professionals Appreciation Day was established in 2015 through Senate Bill 119 at the request of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP). It is officially recognized by Georgia law to emphasize the vital role of water industry professionals and local public water agencies in ensuring safe drinking water, treating wastewater, and protecting waterways.

The event details are as follows:
– What: Careers in Water
– When: Wednesday, May 7, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
– Where: Coastal Georgia Center Auditorium, 305 Fahm St.
