Benedictine Military School’s Sport Shooting Team Placed Third in the General Division

Benedictine Military School’s sport shooting team placed third in the general division at the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) state championships Nov. 19.

The Cadets’ final target count was 1367/1500. For the state shoot, each of the Cadets shot at 100 sporting clays targets Nov. 17, followed by 100 skeet Nov. 18, and 100 trap Nov. 19.

The team score of 1367 is based on the top five Cadets’ cumulative scores, and in this case, is based on the birds hit out of 1500 targets thrown. The Cadets finished as follows: Captain Jackson Ferland, a junior, led the Cadets with a 287/300 total, shooting 92/100 sporting, 100/100 skeet, 95/100 trap; sophomore Drake Cooper 273/300 total, shooting 88/100 sporting, 95/100 skeet, 90/100 trap; junior Charlie Moody shooting 271/300 total, 90/100 sporting, 99/100 skeet, 82/100 trap; freshman Jim Reynolds Morrison shooting 268/300 total, 87/100 sporting, 97/100 skeet, 84/100 trap; freshman Mills Hollis shooting 268/300 total, 91/100 sporting, 87/100 skeet, 90/100 trap; freshman Jack McKenzie shooting 268/300 total, 79/100 sporting, 95/100 skeet, 94/100 trap; junior Jake Dyches shooting 267/300 total, 80/100 sporting, 93/100 skeet, 94/100 trap; freshman Sam Anderson shooting 260/300 total, 85/100 sporting, 96/100 skeet, 79/100 trap; freshman Gavin Walmsley shooting 258/300 total, 77/100 sporting, 93/100 skeet, 88/100 trap; junior Walker Zador shooting 248/300 total, 75/100 sporting, 90/100 skeet, 83/100 trap; freshman Alex Ray shooting 244/300 total, 75/100 sporting, 92/100 skeet, 77/100 trap; sophomore John Adams shooting 241/300 total, 73/100 sporting, 85/100 skeet, 83/100 trap; freshman Elliott Moody shooting 233/300 totaal, 70/100 sporting, 87/100 skeet, 76/100 trap; freshman Anthony DeMott shooting 217/300 total, 56/100 sporting, 93/100 skeet, 68/100 trap.

Some highlights included six Cadets in the top 16 in sporting clays: Ferland, C Moody, Hollis, Cooper, Morrison, Anderson; six Cadets in the top 16 in skeet: Ferland, Moody, Morrison, Anderson, Cooper, McKenzie with Ferland Ferland winning a shootoff for first, Moody placing fourth after a shootoff for third place, and Morrison winning a shootoff for fifth; three Cadets in the top seven in trap: Ferland, Dyches, and McKenzie Ferland was in a threeway tie for first place for high overall and finished third after a shootoff. Cadets Ferland, Cooper, C Moody, Morrison, Hollis, and McKenzie were all named 2022-23 GIAA All-State team.

“We have a young team with a lot of talent and we are looking forward to seeing these Cadets shoot over the course of the year and to their return next season,” BC Sport Shooting Head Coach Mr. Howard J. Morrison III said.
