Benedictine Military School thanks Mr. Dick McAllaster (and his wife, Elison, and the Ricky McAllaster Foundation) and Mr. Bill Richardson, President/Founder of the “It Won’t Happen To Me” Teen Victim Impact Program, for visiting BC today to speak to our Cadets about the importance of driving safely, not texting, wearing a seatbelt, and paying attention while operating a vehicle. The McAllasters lost their son, Ricky, in a car crash 13 years ago. They are committed to educating teens about the dangers of distracted, drunk, and impaired driving. Mr. Richardson said statistics prove that a driver is 23 times more likely to have a crash if they are texting than if they are driving drunk. And he emphasized that, by no means, was he saying it’s better/safer to drive drunk than to drive while texting. Both are illegal. Both can be deadly. But, sadly, not as many people believe that driving while texting is as dangerous as driving while intoxicated. And that is a major misconception that must stop. When you get behind the wheel, THINK! Is that ringing or vibrating cell phone that important? Is reading or sending a text message WORTH YOUR LIFE? (Photos by BC Communications Director Noell Barnidge) #thebc400 #Purpose #RIP10
