Plastic Express, a plastic shipping company, has announced plans to construct a new facility in Savannah, Georgia. This strategic move leverages the region's logistical advantages and proximity to the Port of Savannah. The proposed expansion is expected to generate 200 jobs and inject $80 million into Chatham County's economy, marking a significant investment in Savannah's export opportunities.
Factoids:
The Governor's office released a statement from Governor Kemp: "Job creators like Plastic Express choose to expand their footprints in Georgia because they recognize that we are a solid investment. More than 70 percent of last year's economic development projects were expansions of businesses already operating in our state. This is a reflection of our remarkable partnership approach and dependable infrastructure, such as the Savannah port."
According to the same release from the Governor's office, Plastic Express was established in 1970 in Pasadena, Texas. The company provides extensive services in bulk trucking, terminal operations, packaging, and warehousing for the plastics industry across the nation. Its PX Services unit extends its expertise to manage various non-plastic materials like steel, paper, lumber, and diverse industrial and consumer products.
The planned 980,000-square-foot site is strategically located within five miles of the Port of Savannah and can be accessed via CSX. With features including 104 dock doors and 7,200 container spots, its packaging lines will have the capacity to handle four million pounds of resin per day. Currently slated to commence operations by mid-2024.
Trip Tollison who is currently serving as President and CEO of Savannah Economic Development Authority stated: "Today marks an exciting occasion as we celebrate the announcement that Plastic Express will establish a new facility at Rockingham Farms as its first employer providing 200 new jobs for the region. They have been and will continue to be a valued partner."
