State Representative Jon Burns (R) unveiled legislative goals focusing on law enforcement, taxes, and education at the Eggs & Issues Legislative Breakfast in Effingham County. Burns was accompanied by U.S. Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA), Chairman Bill Hitchens, and a variety of community and business leaders during the gathering.

According to a press release from Burns' office, he said: "Georgia is the envy of the nation when it comes to our economic development and financial strength. Our unemployment rate sits at a near record-low, our rainy day reserve fund is solid and the state enjoys the highest-available credit rating. New companies continue to seek out our state for relocations and expansions. From large projects like Hyundai to smaller businesses, Georgia remains the state that businesses and families want to call home." The breakfast was hosted by the Effingham County Chamber.

In another press release from his office, Burns outlined key priorities and his plans for the forthcoming 2024 legislative session, underlining strategies to fortify Georgia's future. These include supporting state law enforcement for safer highways and communities, investing in early childhood education with an emphasis on literacy for lifelong success, and maintaining collaboration with Governor Kemp to reduce income tax rates, with an aim to enhance Georgians' retention of their earnings. The legislative session is set to begin on January 8, 2024.

The Effingham County Chamber says it was established in 1917 and assists local businesses by providing leadership opportunities, volunteer programs, and initiatives aimed at building businesses. It strives to foster an environment that promotes growth and success within the community by leveraging its members' resources and talents.

According to Burns' official website, Burns is a Republican from Newington who became Georgia's 75th Speaker of the House in January 2023. Having represented the 159th district since 2004, Burns manages House operations, assigns bills, and advocates balanced economic development along with healthcare, education, and transportation initiatives.
