U.S. Representative Rick Allen (R-GA) recently announced the House's approval of the 5G SALE Act, a piece of legislation designed to expedite 5G access in rural areas and bridge the digital divide. Allen has been working diligently in Congress and liaising with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioners to ensure that his constituents in Georgia reap the benefits of this legislation.

Allen proudly announced, "Last week, the House passed the 5G SALE Act—now heading to the President’s desk to be signed into law". He further stated, "I have been actively working to ensure thousands of #GA12 residents will be able to access 5G service via this 2.5 gigahertz band."

The Ripon Advance reported that U.S. Rep. John Joyce (R-PA) led the development of this legislation. In response to its passage, Joyce said, "I’m proud to see this legislation pass unanimously and I look forward to seeing it signed into law. Government red tape should never stand in the way of bringing high-speed internet to our rural communities. As we look to provide resources for remote work, remote learning, and telehealth care for patients, the 5G SALE Act will be a vital tool for deploying fast and reliable internet access."

The same source also detailed that the legislation requires the FCC to release previously auctioned electromagnetic spectrum bands with an aim of expanding 5G broadband access in rural areas. The FCC had previously auctioned around 8,000 licenses granting legal access to radio waves crucial for providing 5G internet. However, despite providers securing these frequencies, license issuance has been stalled by the FCC. The 5G Sale Act seeks to temporarily empower the FCC to issue these auctioned licenses and accelerate deployment of 5G technology in rural areas.

Wireless Estimator reported that Tony Russo, T-Mobile's Vice President of Federal Government Relations, lauded the successful approval of the 5G Sale Act. He emphasized its importance in enabling the FCC to distribute 2.5 GHz licenses and thus expand high-speed internet access for millions. This sentiment was mirrored by the Competitive Carriers Association (CCA), which applauded the bill's progress and urged President Biden to endorse it swiftly. Tim Donovan, President and CEO of CCA, underscored the legislation's potential to enhance 5G connectivity and uphold America's position as a leader in innovation.
