Mayor Van R. Johnson II | City of Savannah
The City of Savannah is set to host a community event on October 23 to mark the completion of improvements at the Guy Minick Youth Sports Complex. These enhancements include new lighting for the football field and additional batting cages for the baseball field.
Earlier this year, in April, the City Council approved a contract to upgrade the ballfield lighting system. This new installation allows both youth and adult sports teams to extend their practice and game times into the evening. The updated lighting replaces an older system that was in disrepair, thus increasing the field's availability for rental groups and tournament events.
Additionally, the complex's batting cages have been expanded with a second cage to accommodate more teams during practices, games, and tournaments. This project represents an investment of nearly $874,000 and was funded through the Recreation Re-Imagined Initiative, which was approved by City Council in 2021.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for these improvements will take place on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Guy Minick Youth Sports Complex located at 7200 Sallie Mood Dr.
