The Board of Public Education for the City of Savannah and the County of Chatham has tentatively decided on a 2023 millage rate that will lead to a 10% increase in property taxes.

A public hearing regarding this tax increase is scheduled for Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. It will take place at the Jessie Collier DeLoach Board Room of the Whitney Administrative Complex, located at 2 Laura Avenue, Savannah, Georgia.

This proposed increase will result in a millage rate of 17.631 mills, marking an increase of 1.603 mills. Without this tentative rise, the millage rate would not exceed 16.028 mills. For a home valued at $250,000, the proposed tax hike amounts to approximately $157.09 annually. Similarly, for non-homestead properties with the same market value, the increase is about $160.30 annually.

Citizens can access the hearing through Livestreaming available on SCCPSS.com or via the district's YouTube Channel.
