Groves High School has created a pathway for students interested in aviation maintenance and manufacturing through a partnership with Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, Savannah Technical College, and Gulfstream Aerospace. On May 17, 2023, three students were celebrated as the first graduates of the Aircraft Maintenance and Manufacturing program to secure employment with Gulfstream Aerospace.

These students completed courses and training from instructors at Savannah Tech, earning certificates as aircraft assembly technicians, composite technicians, and an aircraft structural diploma. After graduation, they began full-time roles at Gulfstream Aerospace where they can directly apply their skills.

Mr. Robert Medina, General Manager of the Savannah Gulfstream Service Center, commented on the initiative: “It was a great opportunity for us to contribute to the community, invest in what we would like to shape in terms of workforce planning and also be a part of investing in our future pipeline."

The Aviation Maintenance program is offered over four years at Robert W. Groves High School. Students accepted into this program receive training from both Savannah-Chatham County instructors and Savannah Tech instructors. The goal is to equip them with certificates that enhance their employability in areas such as Aircraft Assembly Technician I & II and Composite Technician. Graduates are then interviewed by Gulfstream for potential employment opportunities.
