The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) Science Department is acknowledging the accomplishments of its students at recent state and regional science fairs. Special recognition was given to Antronella Duff from Jenkins High School and Kathleen Holliday from Tybee Island Maritime Academy for their support of the students.
The American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics (AIAA), a prominent technical society with a global membership, presented awards in the senior division. Ishant Singh and Matthew Wirick from Jenkins High School received second place for their project "Just Plane Fun," while Jun Hao Lin, also from Jenkins High School, secured third place with "SiO2 Insulator: Heat Saving Solution."
Etta Wade from Tybee Island Maritime Academy won the Georgia Science Teachers Association Award for Creative Problem Solving with her project "Biomimicking Chimney Burrows." Wade also received the Inspiring Excellence Award, which honors outstanding scientific enthusiasm and effort.
Ishant Singh and Matthew Wirick were further recognized with the U.S. Air Force Achievement Award for their work on "Just Plane Fun."
In the junior division honors ribbons category, Etta Wade was among those receiving third honors alongside Oscar Edwards and Kamden Louis, both from Tybee Island Maritime Academy, as well as Piper Mott from The STEM Academy at Bartlett. Fourth honors were awarded to Krisha Bodalia and Paloma Sanchez from The STEM Academy at Bartlett and Maggie Jo Roberts from Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts.
