City crews in Savannah are actively working to address a water line break that occurred near DeRenne Avenue and Reynolds Street. The incident, which took place shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday, prompted the Water Resources team to begin repairs. Initially, it was believed that the issue could be resolved without accessing infrastructure beneath DeRenne Avenue, but further investigation indicated otherwise.
As of 1:45 p.m., eastbound lanes on DeRenne Avenue from Habersham Street to Paulsen Street remain closed, while westbound traffic is restricted to one lane between Paulsen and Habersham. Crews are diligently working to complete the necessary repairs.
A boil water notice is currently affecting approximately 75 households south of DeRenne Avenue between Habersham and Paulsen Streets due to loss of water pressure. Residents in these areas have been advised to follow guidelines for boiling water safely until further notice.
Water quality testing has begun following repairs on the damaged waterline. Hydrant flushing is underway, with additional testing scheduled for tomorrow. An official notice will be issued once the boil water advisory is lifted.
Drivers are advised to use alternate routes as delays are expected on DeRenne Avenue. Turning onto Reynolds Street from DeRenne remains unavailable at this time.
The city assures residents that updates will be provided as more information becomes available and when roadways are fully reopened.
