Important items from the July 12, 2022 Commission Meeting
Commissioners voted unanimously to abandon a 2.6-mile portion of Jernigan Road that runs through the Bryan County Mega-site property and create paved cul-de-sacs at each end of the abandonment. When a county abandons a road, it means that the county is no longer responsible for the upkeep of that portion of the road or right-of-way. In this case, the road portion will be a part of the Mega-site property.
A resolution for a referendum to change Sunday alcohol sales time from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight) was approved unanimously for inclusion on the November 8, 2022 general election ballot. Currently, stores cannot sell until 12:30 p.m. on Sundays. The change is in line with the Sunday Brunch Bill passed by the state.
An agreement to provide recovery assistance with United Way was approved unanimously. This formalizes the ability for United Way to collect donations and assist in other ways after a disaster as they did after the April 5, 2022 tornado.
The commission unanimously approved to begin design services to improve and install a roundabout at the U.S. 80 at U.S. 280 intersection. This work is expected to be partially funded by GDOT.
