You might have seen the removal of grass on the shoulders of a few roads like Belfast Keller recently. This work is the first step in adding widened safety shoulders to high traffic roadways. The shoulders give cars two to three more feet of paving outside the white line and can protect the side of the road from chipping away when trailers or cars run wide onto the dirt shoulder. This construction causes minor traffic delays, but typically moves very quickly and only takes a few days. These improvements are funded by Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) and TSPLOST dollars. Please be mindful when driving through this work and we apologize for any delay.
