The 26th annual March of Dimes Shamrock Run 5K is poised to launch the St. Patrick's Day celebrations in downtown Savannah on Friday, March 1. The event, which will begin and end in Ellis Square, promises to bring together runners and community members for a charitable cause.
According to the official announcement, the route of the 5K race will take participants on a scenic journey through the streets of Savannah. Starting from Ellis Square, the route will lead runners west on Bryan, then south on Jefferson, east on York, passing through Telfair Square, Wright Square, Bull Street, Forsyth Park, and back north on Bull Street before concluding in Ellis Square.
In preparation for the event, road closures around the route will commence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1. The Kids Race is scheduled to begin at 6:10 p.m., followed by the 5K at 6:30 p.m., with the race expected to conclude by 8:30 p.m. Street closures are set to be lifted by 10 p.m, allowing for normal traffic flow to resume.
All proceeds generated from the Shamrock Run will be directed towards the March of Dimes, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of mothers and babies through various programs, research initiatives, community services, educational efforts, and advocacy campaigns.
