The City of Savannah, in collaboration with partner agencies, is providing facilities to help residents stay cool as heat index values are expected to reach between 108 and 112 degrees. This marks the ninth day of extreme weather this summer. A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service and will be in effect from noon to 7 p.m. today.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors. It is crucial that young children and pets are never left unattended in vehicles. Those working or spending time outside should take extra precautions, such as rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours and wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.

The City of Savannah remains committed to its 100% Savannah Plan, approved in March 2020, which aims for a future powered by safe, clean renewable energy that enhances economic opportunities, community health, well-being, and environmental protection.
