The City of Savannah has announced the closure of all government offices on Tuesday, Aug. 6, due to anticipated impacts from Tropical Storm Debby. Essential emergency functions will remain operational.

Government operations and offices will stay open on Monday, Aug. 5. Decisions regarding Wednesday’s operations will depend on the storm's impact. Emergency essential services such as public safety, water and sewer, stormwater management, park and tree maintenance, and traffic engineering will continue to operate at full capacity as weather conditions allow.

Starting Tuesday, Aug. 6, the following city services will be affected:

- All non-emergency essential city government offices will be closed.

- In-person payments at the Coastal Georgia Center for utility, tax, license, and other fees will be suspended.

- Street cleaning night services will be halted.

- The Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Convenience Center will be closed.

- Sanitation routes will follow a modified schedule starting Wednesday.

- Recorder’s Court sessions are canceled.

- In-person services with the Office of Special Events, Film, and Tourism are suspended.

- Several buildings including City Hall, Civic Center, Community Centers, Cultural Arts Center, Floyd Adams City Services Complex, Savannah Municipal Services Annex and the Savannah Entrepreneurial Center will be closed.

Non-emergency public safety offices such as police records departments will also close.

A state of local emergency was declared on Sunday, Aug. 4. This declaration grants the City Manager authority to implement emergency management plans and procure necessary resources in preparation for Tropical Storm Debby.

Chatham County is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch along with Storm Surge Watch and Flood Watch advisories. Expected impacts include historic rainfall levels leading to potential coastal flooding with 2-4 feet of storm surge; rip currents; severe flash flooding; and tropical storm-force winds. Residents in low-lying areas should remain alert for possible flooding.

Savannah residents and businesses are urged to review their emergency plans and kits ahead of inclement weather. For information on preparedness or city services inquiries or requests can call 311 or submit requests online.
