The City of Savannah, in collaboration with partner agencies, is providing facilities to help residents stay cool as heat index values are projected to reach 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

This marks the 14th day of extreme weather this summer. A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service and will be in effect from noon to 6 p.m. today.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, remain in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles. Those working or spending time outdoors should take extra precautions, reschedule strenuous activities for early morning or evening hours, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when possible.

The City of Savannah's commitment to renewable energy is reflected in the 100% Savannah Plan, approved in March 2020. This plan aims to transform economic opportunities, improve community health and well-being, and protect the natural environment through safe, clean renewable energy.

Horse-drawn carriages will not operate on city streets under these conditions; horses may either stay at their stands or return to their stables if safe.

The Office of Special Events, Film, and Tourism enforces these rules, with reminders sent out to all local horse carriage tour businesses.
