City officials in Savannah are set to join the family of Alderman Detric Leggett for a ceremony dedicating a portion of Live Oak Street as Linda B. Harris Way. The event will take place on Friday, October 4, at 2 p.m., at the corner of E. 35th and Live Oak Street.

The honorary street designation was approved by the City Council on September 12, 2024. This recognition comes in honor of Linda B. Harris, who passed away on July 12, 2023. Harris was recognized as a significant figure within the community.

Alderman Nick Palumbo expressed his support for the dedication in a letter stating: “Harris served with distinction as a decorated member of the 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia National Guard for over 36 years, retiring with full honors as a Senior Master Sergeant. During her service to our Nation, Harris served during numerous critical operations for the United States Air Force. It is for this distinction of service to both her community and our nation that I kindly request the approval of an honorary street designation.”

The purpose of such designations is to acknowledge individuals who have contributed significantly to their communities while not affecting official street names.
