The Every Woman’s Marathon is set to take place in Savannah on Saturday, November 16. This marks the first major marathon event in the city since 2021. The marathon, organized by Team Milk, will cover a distance of 26.2 miles, beginning at City Hall at 6:57 a.m. and concluding at E. Broad and E. President St.
Participants will navigate through 15 neighborhoods in Savannah with a time limit of seven hours and forty-five minutes to complete the course. Residents are advised to check local signage for any potential impacts on their travel plans due to road closures on Saturday morning.
Starting at 3 a.m., Bay Street between Bull and Abercorn will be closed to traffic, with vehicles in this five-block area subject to towing if not removed beforehand. Bay Street is expected to reopen by 9:30 a.m., while the final runners are anticipated to finish around 3 p.m.
Truman Parkway's northbound lanes between DeRenne and Henry/Anderson exits will close at 5 a.m., reopening fully by 3 p.m. Road closures in Downtown and Midtown areas will commence at 6 a.m., with normal traffic expected to resume by 11:30 a.m.
The vicinity around DeLesseps Avenue, Savannah State University, Kensington Park, and Henry Street will see closures starting from 6 a.m., reopening around 2 p.m.
The Savannah Police Department has assigned over 180 officers for the event, ensuring smooth operations along the marathon route and assisting residents as needed.
Approximately 7,000 runners are anticipated for the marathon alongside their family members. Over forty percent of these participants are first-time marathoners. The event aims for inclusivity and empowerment among women athletes.
A festival celebrating the conclusion of the race will be held privately at Trustees Garden.
"Every Woman’s Marathon by Team Milk is the only U.S. marathon designed by and for women," according to organizers. They emphasize its focus on being "inclusive, accessible, empowering," aiming also at community-building through various wellness events over the weekend.
Residents are urged to plan accordingly due to possible delays during this large-scale event.
