Immunizations are essential for teenagers as well as young children, with several important vaccines required to protect against diseases. In Georgia, state law mandates immunizations for school and college students. The Chatham County Health Department has announced plans to hold meningitis vaccination clinics in April and May to assist local students in meeting these requirements.
The health department emphasizes the importance of keeping teens healthy with recommended vaccinations. "All Georgia students going into 11th grade who are at least 16 years of age must receive a booster shot to protect against meningitis," according to the statement.
Four vaccination events will take place at the Eisenhower Clinic located at 1395 Eisenhower Drive. These events are scheduled from 3-6 p.m., though specific dates were not provided in the announcement.
Appointments are necessary and can be arranged online at coastalhealthdistrict.org/teenclinic or by contacting the Chatham County Health Department directly at 912-356-2441. It is also noted that a parent or guardian must accompany their child to the appointment.
