Mayor Van R. Johnson II | City of Savannah
The City of Savannah has established a new temporary site for storm debris management at 1301 Bee Road. This initiative aims to improve the efficiency of handling vegetative material during the final citywide collection by contractors. The one-acre site, owned by the Housing Authority of Savannah, will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The additional site is intended to reduce travel distances between neighborhood collection points and the primary Dean Forest Road Landfill. However, it will be used exclusively by the city's debris contractor. Residents are advised to follow existing guidelines for placing storm debris or continue self-hauling to designated facilities.
Operations at the Bee Road site may generate noise, with trucks accessing the area via E. Anderson St. and E. Henry St., but traffic disruption is expected to be minimal.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed this week between the City and the Housing Authority of Savannah for use of the vacant lot.
Since October, over 72,000 cubic tons of vegetative storm debris have been cleared following Hurricane Helene's impact. The operations are scheduled to conclude by December's end.
