Mayor Van R. Johnson II | City of Savannah
The City of Savannah is calling on its residents to contribute to the development of a strategic plan aimed at shaping the city's future through an initiative called Savannah GPS. This initiative will focus on six main goals that affect every resident, business, and neighborhood with the mission of creating a safe, environmentally healthy, and economically thriving community.
A public online survey has been launched where participants can respond to open-ended prompts in a conversational tone. In addition to this survey, city staff and elected leaders will host seven community engagement meetings. The first meeting is scheduled as a virtual kick-off on Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m., followed by six in-person meetings across each of the city's Aldermanic Districts from February 3 to February 10.
These meetings offer an opportunity for residents to meet with councilmembers and share their ideas, concerns, and aspirations for the city's future. "Your voice matters," said City Manager Joseph A. Melder. "Like the GPS that guides you to your destination, this new strategic plan will help Team Savannah guide our city to the future. I am excited to hear from all the residents and with your help, we will make Savannah an even better place to live, work, play, and prosper."
The core goals of Savannah GPS include increasing public safety; investing in equitable community development; expanding economic access; developing world-class environments and infrastructure; improving quality of life by enhancing municipal services; and maintaining high-performing government operations.
Team Savannah encourages all residents to participate in this initiative during February as it represents their city, future, and voice.
