The City of Savannah has resumed normal government operations after a winter storm caused closures last week. The storm brought 1-3 inches of snow and several days of freezing temperatures, leading to halted sanitation services. This week, all operations are back on their regular schedule. Residential garbage collection will prioritize clearing the backlog of curbside waste according to the usual weekly timetable.

Residents should place their refuse carts at the curbside as per their regular collection day. Recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week. Both the Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Transfer Station have reopened and are operating during normal hours.

In response to the disruptions caused by the storm, the City's Revenue Department has extended the deadline for alcohol license renewals from January 31 to February 7 by 5 p.m., providing additional time for affected businesses.

Additionally, the City Council meeting originally scheduled for January 23 has been moved to February 4 at 10 a.m. This session will include a public hearing on Georgia House Bill 581, which Savannah plans to opt out of. Two more public hearings regarding HB 581 are set for February 13 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., all taking place at the Eli Whitney Administrative Complex.
