City officials in Savannah, Georgia, along with community housing partners, are set to commence construction on 16 affordable two-bedroom apartments at 916 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, February 6.
Representatives from the Community Housing Services Agency (CHSA), CHSA Development, Chatham County/City of Savannah Land Bank Authority (LBA), and Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless (CSAH) will join city leaders to mark the start of this project.
“This groundbreaking represents a significant step forward in the City of Savannah's commitment to creating affordable housing solutions for those who need them the most,” stated Savannah Mayor Van R. Johnson, II. "By working together, we’re not only providing housing but also giving families the stability they need to thrive.”
The new apartments are part of five major construction projects under the Housing Savannah Action Plan. They aim to provide homes for small families exiting homelessness or at risk due to rising housing costs in Savannah and its neighborhoods.
Resident amenities will also benefit current neighborhood residents. This development results from public and private collaboration over two years.

The task force included nearly 40 members with one appointee per Alderperson and received technical support from city staff. In 2021, a 10-Year Housing Savannah Action Plan was adopted by City Council. A $7 million investment into the Savannah Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF) launched this plan in 2022.
