City officials in Savannah are set to break ground on a new public safety facility in the New Hampstead area. The event is scheduled for Friday, February 7, and aims to enhance police and fire services in this growing region.

The New Hampstead West Modular Public Safety Facility will feature a fire station and police substation on city-owned land along Highgate Blvd. These facilities will enable Savannah Fire and Savannah Police to maintain service delivery while plans for permanent structures are underway.

The project includes modular buildings that can be relocated once a permanent facility is established. Additionally, the site will have a permanent metal building, stand-by generator, driveways, parking lot, stormwater pond, and other components intended for future use.

The City Council approved the construction contract at its regular meeting on November 26, 2024. Johnson-Laux Construction LLC secured the project with a bid of $3,591,375. Of this amount, approximately $2,300,000 is allocated for permanent installations and reusable components.
