Mayor Van R. Johnson II | City of Savannah
City of Savannah water customers on Dutch Island are currently under a boil water advisory. This measure was implemented after an incident where a contractor accidentally damaged a waterline during other work in the area, according to Savannah Water crews.
Residents affected by this advisory are advised to follow specific guidelines for boiling water safely. The recommended procedure is to bring the water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute, then allow it to cool before use. Boiled water should be stored in clean, covered containers.
The advisory specifies that boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, cooking and preparing food, brushing teeth, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, and mixing baby formula.
Certain activities do not require boiled water. These include showering or bathing (with caution not to swallow the water), washing hands with soap and tap water, doing laundry, and cleaning surfaces or floors.
The notice will remain active until repairs are completed and subsequent testing confirms that the water quality is safe for consumption.
