The Savannah Youth Council (SYC) and Savannah Youth Ambassadors (SYA) have announced that they are now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 membership year. Mayor Van R. Johnson, II emphasized the importance of nurturing young leaders in Savannah, stating, "Savannah's continued prosperity will depend upon our ability to prepare, develop, and mentor Savannah's emerging generation of young leaders."
SYA offers a year-round program aimed at fostering youth leadership and civic engagement through various activities such as City-sponsored training, cultural exploration opportunities, and community impact projects. The program begins each year in June with a four-week summer intensive session. Eligible students must be in 9th-12th grade and attend a Savannah-Chatham public or private school, with applications closing on April 30 or when spots are filled.
On the other hand, SYC provides local youth with the opportunity to work with city government, instilling a sense of civic responsibility and developing leadership skills. Members collaborate on group projects and engage in community service activities. Eligible students for SYC are those starting 8th grade and attending a Savannah-Chatham public or private school, with applications open until all spots are filled. The program is set to commence in August.
Both programs offer valuable experiences for young individuals in Savannah to grow, learn, and contribute to their community. Interested students can apply for the Savannah Youth Ambassador and Savannah Youth Council programs before the application deadlines to secure their spots for the upcoming year.
