The City of Savannah’s Recreation and Leisure Services will offer a range of athletic opportunities for youth and young adults this summer, including cheer camp, girls' flag football, and summer basketball.
In a new initiative, the city will host a 3-on-3 basketball league for adults aged 18 to 24 in honor of Coach Roscoe “Scolo” Edwards. Coach Edwards was a long-time city employee who provided various programs, leagues, and camps at the Blackshear Basketball Complex where he worked. A beloved community member, the main court at Blackshear was recently named after him. The new league will further recognize his impact and service to Savannah.
The Above the Violence Friday Night Hoops event will take place every Friday from June 7 to July 26 from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Blackshear Basketball Complex, located at 820 Wheaton St. Spots are available for 20 teams with a registration fee of $25.

Every Friday and Saturday from June 7 to July 27, Summer Basketball will welcome teens aged 12 to 18 at Grant Gym (122 West St.) and Eastside Gym (415 Goebel Ave.). Ages 12 to 15 will compete from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by ages 16 to 18 from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Food, drinks, games, and activities will also be provided. Registration is on-site.
Summer Cheer Camp immerses youth aged five to fifteen in cheerleading activities. Participants will be coached by cheer experts and experience cheering on game days' sidelines. The first three sessions cost $45 for city residents and $50 for non-residents; they run from June 3-6, June 10-13, and June 17-21 (excluding Juneteenth on June 19). The last session runs from June 24-27 with a showcase finale and costs $50 for city residents and $55 for non-residents. All sessions occur from 9 a.m. to noon at Alee Temple (100 Eisenburg Dr.).

The city also invites middle and high school-aged girls to sign up for Girls Flag Football free of charge. Middle school camp runs June17-18andJune20-21; high school sessions occur June24-28.Both camps are held from6p.m.to7:30p.m.atDaffinParkMorrisField(1500E.VictoryDr.).All skill levels are welcome.
