Mayor Van R. Johnson II | City of Savannah
The City of Savannah and partner agencies are providing facilities to help residents stay cool as heat index values potentially reach 111 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service. This marks the fourth day of extreme weather this summer. A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service and will be in effect from noon to 7 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Extra precautions are advised for those who work or spend time outside; strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening hours, and lightweight, loose-fitting clothing is recommended.
The City of Savannah remains committed to its 100% Savannah Plan, approved in March 2020, which aims for a future powered by safe, clean renewable energy that enhances economic opportunity, community health, well-being, and environmental protection.
