The City of Savannah has disclosed the location for its upcoming Community Center at Windsor Forest. The center will be at 218 Windsor Road, a site previously occupied by Woody’s Skate Park. This initiative is part of the Southside/Windsor Forest Community Recreation Facility project and aims to offer a space for community activities, integrating both recreational and social functions.

Mayor Van R. Johnson, II expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, "I am excited to move closer to fulfilling our commitment to provide additional amenities for our Southside neighbors." He further noted the site's historical significance and its potential to act as a community hub. "The new Community Center at Windsor Forest will reflect our commitment to preserving the character and history of our neighborhoods while investing in their future," Johnson said. He highlighted that it will maintain the mid-century modern aesthetic of Windsor Forest and incorporate the iconic grand oak tree within its premises.

District 6 Alderman Kurtis Purtee added, "This is exciting news for this awesome resource in Windsor Forest," emphasizing the positive impact the center will have on local quality of life. City Manager Jay Melder also conveyed appreciation for community involvement, noting, "The Community Center at Windsor Forest is an important project for the 6th District and for the Windsor Forest community."

The project is aligned with the city's broader Recreation Reimagined initiative, which seeks to modernize recreational facilities across Savannah. An advisory workgroup has been formed to oversee the project, including representatives from several local organizations like the Windsor Forest Community Association and the Windsor Forest Booster Club.

Nick Roberts, Senior Director of Recreation and Leisure, stressed the importance of community involvement in the project, indicating an intention to continue collaborating with local residents. "I look forward to working with the community members on the advisory workgroup as we shape the future of this new facility," Roberts said.

The site at 218 Windsor Road was chosen for its central location, providing easy access for neighborhood residents. Future public meetings will be scheduled to finalize the center's plans, ensuring the community’s priorities and needs are fully considered.
