From February 8,  2023 post.

As Benedictine Military School celebrates Black History Month, we salute Mr. Nick Wright '10.

How did Benedictine Military School help to shape you?

“When I first came to BC, I just wanted to be seen for who I really was. It was a new environment and I didn’t come from a feeder school, so I didn’t know what to expect. I had to overcome a lot of assumptions about who I was supposed to be, and I did that by putting my all into whatever I chose to do. I went out for football my freshman year, and as you could imagine, I enjoyed those games from the bench. However, getting passed over motivated me and eventually connected me with the wrestling coaches at that time. They liked me and encouraged me, teaching me not only to be a good wrestler but to be disciplined as a man and to develop a mental toughness that would last long after my wrestling years. BC gave me a newfound level of self-discipline. There is a difference between chasing something you want and focusing enough to build a strategy that will help you realize the expectations you have for yourself. If you stay grounded and live by an honorable code, help will always be there, even when the path is not a straight line (It seldom is).”

Wright is the first Black state champion in the history of Benedictine Military School’s wrestling program. Nick was also an all- American Wrestler at Mercer University in 2013.

Wright was a three-time state placer at the GHSA Wrestling State Championships. He won a state championship in 2009. Wright also ran cross-country and played soccer at BC. After graduating, Wright attended Mercer University on a wrestling scholarship, joining several of his classmates. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication in 2014 and he earned a master’s degree in Instructional Design from Georgia State University in 2019. Wright works for a supply-chain and warehouse modernization company called Fortna, and he recently relocated from Atlanta to Savannah.
